Project Name: Ames NASA Building Collaborative Support Facility

Project Description: Ames NASA’s Collaborative Support Facility, Building N232. is a new building located at Moffett Field, California. The building and the on-site work has been constructed as sustainable entities. The project is designed with a goal to achieve LEED-NC v2.2 Platinum Certification. The requirements for sustainable construction were contained throughout the contract documents. The new facility consists of a two (2) story structural steel framed buildings of approximately 50,000 square feet. The buildings are comprised of two separate wings, two (2) stories each with mechanical penthouses on the roofs. In addition to the open office space, the building includes a glass wall atrium, accessible restrooms, a lunchroom, elevator, and mechanical/electrical support areas. Construction also includes complete heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems utilizing ground source heat pumps, electrical and data communications to support the building operations, photovoltaic power and solar hot-water systems, fire detection and suppression systems, an advanced lighting system, and security systems. The construction project also includes site preparation and site utilities; installation of approximately 60 geothermal wells, new roadways and parking, California native landscaping, hardscaping, and the development of a site storm water management system.

Project Description: Winner of the Green Project of the Year Award Roosevelt Community Center is an attractive new downtown community center. The 22.5 Million center is a 2 story 30,063 square-foot building and secured the Gold-Level LEED certification. Smith and Sons Electric installed the Lutron EcoSystem lighting control system comprised of digital dimming ballasts, controls and environmental sensors working together to save electricity, increase space flexibility, increase occupant comfort and productivity and reduce maintenance costs.
Project Name: Mills College-Natural Sciences Building-Oakland CA.

Project Description: Mills College Natural Sciences Building has receive the Platinum LEED certificate become the first building in Oakland to earn the highest certified rating in environmental design and construction and the fourth building in the Bay Area to be Platinum Certified. The 26,000 square foot 17 million state of the art facility is 90 percent more energy efficient than a typical lab in the Bay Area and 45 percent more efficient than required by state law. Smith and Sons Electric installed automatic day light sensors, dimming ballasts, light control, PV System providing over 30 percent of the buildings electrical needs, water reclamation recycling system and Emergency Generator.
Project Name: Milpitas Library and Community Center-Milpitas CA.

Project Description: The $39,000,000 Library is a 2 story 60,000 square foot new building encompassing the historic grammar school at 160 N. Main Street in its design. The school was built in 1916 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Smith and Sons Electric installed the Lutron EcoSystem lighting control system comprised of digital dimming ballasts, controls and environmental sensors working together to save electricity, increase space flexibility, increase occupant comfort and productivity and reduce maintenance costs.

Project Description: San Jose Police Southside Substation is a three-story, 107,000 square foot structure built over one level of underground parking. The $60 million substation includes a vehicle maintenance building with washing and fueling facilities. This project is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification. Smith and Sons Electric installed the Lutron EcoSystem lighting control system comprised of digital dimming ballasts, local controls, watt stopper intelligent lighting control panels and environmental sensors working together to save electricity, increase space flexibility, increase occupant comfort and productivity and reduce maintenance costs.
Project Name: De Anza College Mediated Learning Center

Project Description:

The Mediated Learning Center, was designed to provide flexible general purpose classrooms and labs for increased instructional space and academic capacity for anthropology, sociology and world languages.

The Mediated Learning Center comprises 66,900 square ft and house offices for Distance Learning, Staff and Organizational Development, and the Technology Resources Group, including the broadcast media film and TV studio.

The goal is to make this an energy efficient facility obtaining a platinum rating based on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
