San Jose Downtown Health Center
Contract: $3.6M / General Contractor: Flint Builders
The 3-story facility will include an urgent care center for both adults and children, as well as pediatric, OBGYN, behavioral health, and family medicine primary care services. The health center will also include space for SCVMC’s innovative “Medical Homes” model, an integrated, patient-centric approach to healthcare that brings together interdisciplinary teams of doctors, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, mental health providers, nutritionists, and other health professionals. SCVMC has been at the forefront of a growing national movement to implement medical homes, as evidence suggests they can improve patient health, reduce the risk of hospitalization, and make more efficient use of resources.
Washington Hospital
Contract: $350,000 / General Contractor: Rhodes and Kesling
Smith & Sons Electric completed two projects under this contract at Washington Hospital. The first project was the High-Tech Open Heart Operating Room and the Packer Nursery. These projects had many challenges and coordination issues due to the restrictions placed upon us due to the crucial life safety issues surrounding an operating hospital.

Contract: $1.2M / General Contractor: Swinerton & Walberg Builders
Washington Hospital is located in Fremont, CA. This particular facility was designed as a 300,000 square foot satellite outpatient care facility. Smith & Sons Electric installed new transformers, switchgear, life safety systems, mechanical equipment, site lighting, power, building lights, and a 700 foot walk-over bridge to the main hospital facility.
Alameda County Adolescence Substance Abuse Facility
Contract: $1.1M / General Contractor: Berro Construction
This facility for Alameda County is situated in the Fairmont Hospital Complex in San Leandro, CA. It is a complete live-in, educational, detention facility for young substance abusers. Smith & Sons Electric furnished the complete building power, lighting, fire alarm system, nurse call system, and security system for this project.
